Installation

Here is just a little information and pictures about the installation of your cable modem service. These particular pictures and information are from an installation from a Blueyonder engineer.

How long does the installation take?
the installation process can take from 10 mins to 1 hour depending on the situation, for example, if your computer is near the connection point (where the cable enters the house) then all he needs to do is feed some cable off the point or a splitter (if you have cable tv) and to your computer then it could only take 10mins.
Though for example if your computer is all the way in your back room then the engineer may needs to lift carpet, tack cable and drill holes through walls to get the cable to your computer, and that could take upto an hour, possibly more.

What does the engineer do?
The engineer will take a look at your connection point. If you have cable TV then he will install a splitter (see below) so the signal can be split between your STB (Set Top Box) (some people refer to your STB as your cable box) and your cable modem. The engineer will then route the coaxiel cable to where your computer is and connect it to your cable modem.
He will then connect your cable modem to a power socket then connect the ethernet cable to your computer. Then all he needs to do is configure your computer and cable modem so they are ready to access the internet. Once the engineer has done that he/she will phone your head-end and tell them to add your cable modems MAC address and your network cards MAC address so you can get online. All the engineer does then is run a speed test to make sure you are getting the speed you should be getting using your new broadband service.
