Speeds

Your cable modem is probobly capable of speeds over 30mbps. but your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is extremely likely to lower the speed you are capable of getting, this is called capping or a cap). Your connection speed can also be limited to the ammount of RF (Radio Frequency) bandwidth available on the cable you are using.

Whats RF bandwidth?

RF bandwidth is the ammount of bandwidth available on your cable line. For example, if your cable operator provides alot of digital or analog TV channels then most of the bandwidth on your cable line is likely to be taken up. If your cable operator runs a cable modem service then they have probobly set aside some bandwidth for data.
